Education and Culture
By retaining Education and Culture as one of its main areas of intervention, FESMAR affirms its belief that these areas play a key role in the full development of all human beings. In fact, personal growth cannot be observed in citizens if they do not adhere to a set of universal or collective, individual or interpersonal values acquired from their education or their culture. FESMAR is positive that access to quality education is the only sustainable way for the school children of Dame-Marie to learn to meet their community’s challenges and to better prepare for the future.
With the learning activities which will be strengthened by partnerships with schools, the youth will be able to develop a passion for work, excellence, as well as self-discipline, respect, solidarity, a sense of sharing and a sense of responsibility.
For these values to be installed, however, they must be rooted in a culture of tolerance and integrity, of participation and mutual understanding. This emphasis on values bears witness to the importance FESMAR places on the facts and symbols by which both youth and adults can come to showcase their identity. Dame-Marie’s young and old have an acute sense of principle, which facilitates any effort to improve their knowledge and expertise. As they are open to change, they will always be eager to learn, to express themselves and to experiment.
The projects that the Foundation intends to implement in relation to this approach are aiming to lead to the full development of young people. FESMAR is thusly committed to providing support to primary and secondary schools as well as to existing cultural associations. Over the next year, in addition to the drawing workshop and contest intended for them, many other activities have been scheduled: film screenings, science clubs, music lessons, dance lessons, singing lessons and more.
